Jan Davidsz de Heem was a still life painter and one of a major representatives of Dutch Baroque painting, combining a brilliance and harmony of colour with an accurate rendering of objects: flowers in all their variety; European and tropical fruits; butterflies and insects; stone and metal. More than one hundred of his paintings can be seen in the biggest European galleries such as the Belvedere Vienna, Berlin Museum, Alte Pinakothek Munich, Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels.
